An initiative of King’s Cross Church to create a home in the heart of King’s Cross

King’s House is an initiative of King’s Cross Church (KXC) to create a home in the heart of King’s Cross, from which to play our part in the social, spiritual and physical transformation of the local area.

King’s House will bring together a number of our projects & partnerships tackling the effects and route causes of poverty in the area, providing support to families, children & young people, and being advocates for justice & reconciliation. King’s House will be a community hub where those from all walks of life can come together, and our existing projects can benefit from being housed together, collaborating and sharing resources. Our aim is to continue reaching and serving those who are marginalised and neglected in our society and create a space that facilitates the ongoing transformation of this amazing local area.

We have taken a 10 year lease on a property located around the corner from King’s Cross station the building first opened in 1923 as the Luciana Temperance Billiard Hall, and has since had a range of different uses, from a billiard hall to a bicycle store, and more recently it has housed the Poor School (an acting school) and the Pauline Quirke Academy offering children’s drama lessons. Today, this important community asset is in a critically poor state of repair.

The Morris Trust grant has enabled us to begin a full building refurbishment, including essential roof repairs, sound isolation infrastructure and the necessary work to shape an environment that is accessible to all. Islington is the sixth most deprived local authority region in London, and through a range of life-changing outreach projects we aim to be a beacon of hope, offering practical support, empowerment and connection. Our vision is that the restoration of this historical building will be mirrored in the restoration of dignity and priority to the most vulnerable and overlooked groups, and a fresh injection of vitality into King’s Cross.
